Visual Studio Tools for Office

Visual Studio Tools for Office “v3” June CTP
The Visual Studio Tools for Office "v3" June CTP gives developers who are using the beta 2 release of the 2007 Microsoft Office system an early glimpse at some of the key new features and feature directions in the area of Microsoft Office programmability. These features include extensibility of the new Microsoft Office UI, the new Office Open XML file formats, and support for customizable application-level task panes across Microsoft Office system applications. The next version of Visual Studio Tools for Office is designed to help developers take advantage of these new capabilities, as well as to provide additional infrastructure to ensure that Microsoft Office solutions created with managed code run more reliably, efficiently and securely.

Device Emulator

Device Emulator V 2.0 – Beta Community Tech. Preview
The Beta version of Microsoft Device Emulator 2.0 is now available via the Microsoft Download Center. More information on the release and installation is in the Readme.rtf file that comes with the release. Device Emulator 2.0 includes several new features such as support for Tablet PC ink-based input, high-resolution via zoom, more configurable options on the emulator’s config UI, eXDi support for Platform Builder users, much improved performance, and sample code to use the emulator’s DMA interface.

WinFX

Visual Studio Code Name "Orcas" Community Technology Preview - Development Tools for WinFX
Development Tools for WinFX provides developers and designers with support for building WinFX applications using the final released version of Visual Studio 2005. This support includes a preview of the Visual Designer for Windows Presentation Foundation (code name "Cider"), XAML Intellisense support through schema extensions for the editor, project templates for Windows Presentation Foundation and Windows Communication Foundation, and WinFX SDK documentation integration.

LINQ

Visual Studio Code Name “Orcas” CTP - Language Integrated Query
Bridging the two worlds of data and objects is a task faced by most developers today. Bringing data into object-oriented programs means having to bridge the world of objects with that of schema, tables, cells and rows, usually dealt with via strings. Language Integrated Query (LINQ) provides support within the language for querying and updating all types of data in a consistent object-oriented manner. Objects enjoy rich support at the language level, allowing IDEs and code editors to provide high-fidelity design-time assistance. LINQ is available to both VB 2005 and C# developers.

Visual Studio Tools for Application

Next Generation of Application Customization - Visual Studio Tools for Application
Microsoft is changing the landscape for application customization with the recent release of Visual Studio Tools for Applications (VSTA) CTP. Microsoft has supported more than 350 independent software vendors (ISVs) and 8 million developers with extensibility through Visual Basic for Applications for the past nine years. VSTA will build on that success by enabling ISVs to integrate and distribute the latest Visual Studio 2005 technology with their applications. And productivity is increased through VSTA’s development environment. VSTA is available as part of the Visual Studio SDK and includes documents, whitepapers, help topics, sample applications, and a redistributable IDE based on Visual Studio 2005. Commercial availability of VSTA is scheduled for later this year and will include licensing options for redistribution. VSTA will also ship with Microsoft Office InfoPath 12, where it will enable Office developers to write managed add-ins for InfoPath in either Visual Basic or C#.
